Wolmer’s Preparatory School Celebrates 85 Years of Excellence

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Wolmer’s Preparatory School (WPS) celebrated its 85th anniversary on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with Maroon & Gold Day, the centerpiece of Anniversary Week, held September 13–19 under the theme “Rooted in Legacy, Built on Excellence.”

The week began with a thanksgiving service at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Allman Town, attended by Chairman of the Wolmer’s Trust, Mr. Milton Samuda, and Chairman of the Wolmer’s Preparatory School Board, Captain Basil Bewry (Retired). On Monday, Mr. Samuda also attended the Thanksgiving Devotion and Anniversary Launch. The week continued with a Heritage Day, where scholars explored the school’s history through a decade exhibition and stories from generations of Wolmerians. The programme continues with House Heritage Day and Family and Preparation Day before concluding with a community give-back initiative supporting Allman Town Infant and Allman Town Primary Schools.

Dressed in the school’s iconic maroon and gold, scholars, staff and families celebrated 85 years of memories, friendships and academic excellence while looking ahead to the next generation of Wolmerians.

“For 85 years, Wolmer’s Preparatory has educated children, shaped character, served families and contributed to the development of our nation. Our legacy gives us our foundation; excellence gives us our direction,”

said Ms. Kemar Christie, Principal and CEO of Wolmer’s Preparatory School.

Ms. Christie said the anniversary year is focused on reigniting community spirit and extending the arms of Wolmer’s beyond the school gates. “Institutions are strongest when they are connected to, and serve, the communities around them,” she said.

The 85th Anniversary will continue throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, with additional milestone events planned for scholars, staff, alumni and the wider community. The celebrations are being held under the stewardship of the Wolmer’s Preparatory School Board, with the continued support of the Wolmer’s Trust.

Throughout the anniversary year, scholars—particularly the school’s youngest Wolmerians—will learn the stories, traditions and values that have shaped the institution and prepare to carry the Wolmerian legacy forward.

Wolmer’s Preparatory School gives thanks to the educators, staff, families and generations of Wolmerians whose dedication and achievements have helped shape the school and Jamaica.
