Class of ’82 JM$1M Donation
During a symbolic cheque handing over ceremony inside the Douglas Orane Auditorium at the school’s Heroes Circle compound, the group handed over the donation to head of the Science Department, Rassan Smith, during school devotion.
The money was collected from members of the class group over a three month period.
Members of the Class of 82 live in various locations across the globe including Jamaica, Abu Dabi, the United Kingdom, various US cities and Canada. Head of the school’s History Department, Bandele Sankofa, is the sitting president of the class of 1982.
“We are very humbled to be a part of the Wolmer’s family and are more than happy to give back to this great institution which has framed us into what we are today,” Sankofa told Loop News.
The group has adopted the Wolmer’s Boys’ School science block and have over the past year donated several laptop computers, projectors and other equipment to the school.
Members of the group also painted the first form block in the school’s colours of maroon and gold and undertake a yearly project to upkeep the school’s football field before the start of the schoolboy football season in September.
The handing over was a part of the Class of 1982 reunion activities which included a tour of the school, mentoring of students, a trip to Treasure Beach in St Elizabeth – where the old boys participated in their former extra-curricular activities such as box football, roll-a-coin and money football.
The Class of 1982 has produced businessmen, pilots, veterinarians, teachers, coaches of various sporting disciplines, information technology experts and journalists among others.
