Miriam Speid is on the 1929 Wolmer’s Old Girls’ roll and among the bicentenary subscribers. That is the Wolmer’s fact.

JIS (2005) and the Observer (2018) name her founder of Merl Grove High School, with her father Nathaniel Speid. JIS in June 2005 said she “started the school 80 years ago”; the Observer in November 2018 called that year’s founders’ week the 94th anniversary. Both papers’ words stand. The Observer adds that the school is owned by the Associated Gospel Assemblies. JIS records an annual Miriam Speid Scholarship in the founder’s name.

The Gleaner (1 January 2026), in Alma Mock Yen’s obituary, states that Speid was principal of Merl Grove when she hired Mock Yen, aged fourteen, after Senior Cambridge. Mock Yen taught there ten years. A Gleaner photograph caption of 12 February 2016, looking back to 1972, calls Speid a member of the Wolmer’s Girls School Board of Trustees and founder also of Dunrobin High School.
