May Jeffrey-Smith is on the 1929 Wolmer’s Old Girls’ roll and among the bicentenary donors. That is the independent school fact.

Catherine Levy, writing in the Journal of Caribbean Ornithology (2019), dates her 1881–1973 and calls her an “inveterate Jamaican bird observer.” She published notes with the Natural History Society of Jamaica, wrote Bird-Watching in Jamaica (1956; revised 1972, illustrated by Ivy Jeffrey-Smith), and in 1963 founded the Gosse Bird Club with Anna Black. One library record gives birth as 1882. Both years are on the record.
