Barbara McDaniel: three decades of dance and discipline at Wolmer’s Prep

The Gleaner profiled Barbara McDaniel — “Miss B” — founder and artistic director of Dance Theatre Xaymaca and long-time leader of the Wolmer’s Dance Troupe at Wolmer’s Preparatory School.
McDaniel’s training began at the Jamaica School of Dance in 1985. Within six years she was leading Wolmer’s Prep to 60 gold and 15 silver medals in the JCDC National Dance Competition. She later received the Ivy Baxter Award for Excellence in Dance, and launched Dance Theatre Xaymaca in 1995 with her senior Wolmer’s students.
The Gleaner recorded more than 36 years of service to Wolmer’s Prep — as dance teacher, dean of discipline, development coordinator and events coordinator.
