Wolmer’s Boys win JPS Foundation Power Up Energy Club debate finals

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Wolmer’s Boys took first place in the JPS Foundation’s Power Up Energy Club Debate Competition finals, the Observer reported, winning $300,000.
Appolos Joiles, Jhordan Dixon and Tyler Bennett defeated Herbert Morrison Technical High. Joiles, the team captain and a fifth former, was named Best Debater by the Jamaica Association for Debating and Empowerment. The Observer also photographed coaches Paula Samuels and Miguel Foster and teammates Aiden Williams and Kyle Kameka.
Eighteen schools took part. The moot was: “This House believes that Jamaica should implement climate mitigation strategies, even if their direct global impact is limited.” Samuels said it was Wolmer’s first time in the competition.
