The thanksgiving service for Stephen “Franno” Francis, old boy of Wolmer’s Boys and founder of the MVP Track Club, was held on Saturday 15 August 2026 at the National Indoor Sports Centre, Independence Park.
The Observer reported on 12 August that Sport Minister Olivia Grange had opened a condolence book ahead of the service. Francis died on 4 July 2026, a day after his 64th birthday. The Wolmer’s Trust had already described him as “a giant and genius” and recalled that he captained the 1982 Schools’ Challenge Quiz team.
