Renaldo Facey, Wolmer’s Boys: top CSEC 2016, third in Jamaica in the sciences

KINGSTON, Jamaica — JIS News, reprinted in the Caribbean by Magnetic Media on 13 December 2017, profiled Renaldo Facey, then 18, of Denham Town and an upper-sixth student at Wolmer’s Boys.
JIS recorded nine CSEC grade ones — biology, chemistry, physics, human and social biology, additional mathematics, principles of accounts, literature, English language and mathematics — and five CAPE Unit 1 grade ones (chemistry, biology, physics, entrepreneurship, communication studies). He was “the top performer for Wolmer’s Boys’ School in the 2016 sitting of the CSEC examinations” and “ranked third in Jamaica for the science subjects.”
On 28 November 2017 he received a Board of Supervision / Poor Relief Association scholarship. Desmond McKenzie, then minister of local government and MP for Western Kingston, told JIS he would pay the full cost of Renaldo’s bachelor’s degree after sixth form in 2018. Facey said he wanted to become a medical doctor. “I want others to believe that they can be successful regardless of what they may be facing.”
