KINGSTON, Jamaica — At the Pocket Rocket Foundation awards at the AC Hotel, the Observer’s Renae Osbourne spoke to Lauren Thompson, head girl of Wolmer’s Girls, who said the award was the first scholarship she had received for sport and academics.

“I’m eternally grateful. It’s a real honour because it’s actually the first scholarship I’ve ever received regarding sports and academics. So I feel completely humbled and I’m just really excited for what is to come with all of this,” Thompson said. She competes in volleyball, water polo and dance.

Fraser-Pryce, the foundation’s founder and an old girl of Wolmer’s Girls, attached a scholarship badge to Thompson. Guest speaker was Liana Campbell, a 2018 Pocket Rocket scholar, Wolmer’s old girl, and a biochemistry major at the University of the West Indies.

A later Observer report (10 July 2026), opening the 2026–27 applications, carried a photograph of Fraser-Pryce with Aaliyah Nelson of Wolmer’s Girls, named as a 2025 scholarship recipient.
