On 27 May 2019, Television Jamaica’s Midday News reported that the People’s National Party had named Dr Walton Small, then principal of Wolmer’s Boys’ High School, as its candidate for South St James.

The Gleaner had reported on 13 November 2018 that Small was tipped to replace veteran Member of Parliament Derrick Kellier. Dwight Pennycooke is now principal of Wolmer’s Trust High School for Boys.
