The Daily Gleaner of 22 June 1981 reported a Wolmer’s Old Boys’ Association dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Kingston, in honour of Prime Minister Edward Seaga.

Seaga offered $1,000 towards a trophy for a special competition for the students of Wolmer’s Boys’ School, to be administered by the school and awarded to the boy who best bears out the motto. The citation saluted him as “the first Prime Minister from Wolmer’s.”

Don Brice, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, traced Seaga’s and his own years at the school in the 1940s. The function was chaired by the Hon. Leacroft Robinson, President of the Court of Appeal. Brice named Hector Wynter, editor of the Gleaner, among illustrious old boys, and said the school could be proud of producing a Governor-General and a Prime Minister at the same time — Sir Florizel Glasspole and Seaga.
