Wyllie Longmore, Wolmer’s Boys, actor and director
The same piece said he was born in Sterling, in the parish of St Ann, Jamaica, worked in a clerical job in the Survey Office, taught at Ferncourt high school in Claremont, and travelled to Britain in 1960. He trained at Rose Bruford College from 1965, graduating in 1968, and later co-founded the Arden School of Theatre (1991), where he was head of acting until 2002.
Based in Manchester, he played Mark Antony, Banquo and Doctor Faustus on stage, Jeremy in Love Actually (2003) and Dr McKinnon in Coronation Street (1992). With the playwright Maureen Lawrence he made Speak of Me As I Am (2013–17), a conversation with the memory of Ira Aldridge. He won two Manchester Evening News theatre awards, in 1995 and 2006, and became a fellow of Rose Bruford College in 2016.
