Lascelles Chin, Wolmer’s old boy, founder of LASCO
The Jamaica Observer of 28 May 2023 reported that Lascelles Chin, founder of the LASCO Affiliated Companies and a Wolmer’s old boy, had died in Florida the previous Saturday night, aged 86, surrounded by family.
The paper quoted a Wolmer’s statement: he rose “from a small importer of black pepper, through Chairman and Managing Director of Henkel Jamaica, to become the founder of the LASCO Affiliated Companies.” The same release said LASCO had become “a household name” and that “despite his out-sized success, Las never forgot his humble roots.” The statement placed his beginnings in Bog Walk.
LASCO’s own tribute, by James Rawle, records that he “attended the Wolmer’s High School for Boys.” JIS, covering his induction into the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica Hall of Fame, called him founder and executive chairman of the LASCO companies.
