{"id":2340,"date":"2015-09-30T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-30T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wolmers.org\/trust\/?p=2340"},"modified":"2026-08-21T22:58:29","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T22:58:29","slug":"profile-ludlow-moody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wolmers.org\/trust\/trust-profiles\/profile-ludlow-moody\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Ludlow Moody, Wolmer\u2019s Boys, trustee, CBE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dr Ludlow Murcott Moody, CBE, was born on 1 November 1892 and educated at Wolmer\u2019s Boys\u2019 School before reading medicine at King\u2019s College, London (<em>British Medical Journal<\/em>, 16 January 1982). In 1919, the <em>BMJ<\/em> said, he became the first Jamaican to obtain the MRCP; he proceeded MD in 1920. After work in physiology and bacteriology at King\u2019s he came home as government bacteriologist, holding that post until 1925, then entered general practice in Kingston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was president of the Jamaica branch of the British Medical Association, president of the Medical Council of Jamaica, a magistrate, and a member of the Public Service Commission. The same obituary said he was \u201calways conscious of his debt to Wolmer\u2019s School and served for 40 years on the board of trustees,\u201d and that \u201chis greatest contribution undoubtedly [was] the founding of a preparatory school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was at the first meeting of the university college\u2019s provisional council in 1944, on the college council from 1947 to 1955, and on the university hospital board from 1948 until 1977. He captained a Jamaican team at Bisley in 1938. He was made CBE in 1966. The <em>Gleaner<\/em>\u2019s \u201cThis Day in Our Past\u201d (1 March 2023) records that in 1961 he was sworn as Custos of Kingston at Wolmer\u2019s Girls\u2019 School. He died on 19 November 1981, aged 89.
