Photo: Oliver Wright \/ Jamaica Gleaner, 14 October 2007<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>October 14, 2007<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KINGSTON, Jamaica \u2014 The Gleaner of 14 October 2007 profiled Lorna Downie after her appointment, on 1 September, as principal of Wolmer\u2019s Pre-school and Preparatory School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The paper recorded 32 years of teaching. At Jessie Ripoll Primary she had \u201cnot less than 85 per cent\u201d Common Entrance passes over 19 years; in 1994 the 60 students she prepared all received high-school places. She held a B.Sc. <em>magna cum laude<\/em> from Temple University (2001), an M.Sc. in educational leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and a 2006 diploma in school management from Mount St Vincent University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her first month at Prep she introduced a mathematics diagnostics test for grade six \u2014 \u201ca first in the history of the school,\u201d the Gleaner wrote. She promised parents she would remain \u201can integral part of the teaching and learning process.\u201d Born in Cedar Valley, St Thomas; Duckenfield Primary and Morant Bay High.
